What Does CC Mean In Email?
Meaning of Carbon Copy: As CC stands for Carbon Copy. It is important to understand the meaning of the word Carbon Copy.Earlier when the technology was not much developed, people used to make a manual copy of any documents or important paper by using carbon paper.A carbon paper was placed between the blank paper and the original paper on which the document was to make. When something was written on the original paper it was traced by the carbon paper on the blank sheet placed exactly below it.In this way, a document was copied on a blank sheet without any changes.
CC in an email does the exact same thing as done by a carbon paper.A sender uses CC when she/he wants to make one or more copies of the original mail so that it can be sent to different persons without any changes.CC is an important field of email composition and helps to send original mail content to multiple users at the same time without any alteration.
Difference Between CC and BCC
While composing an email you might have seen a field which looks similar to CC but has “B” as a prefix that is, BCC.It stands for Blind Carbon Copy.
These two fields might look similar but are bit different from each other. The major difference between CC and Bcc is that when you use CC to copy and send email to multiple users, those users can see the list of all other users to whom you have sent this email.
When you use BCC to make a copy of an email and send to multiple users, those users cannot see the list of other users to whom you have send this mail.
For example: when you CC an email to [email protected] and [email protected] they both can see the list of recipient whereas if, the same mail is send using BCC than none of them will be able to see the recipient list.
Difference Between To And CC
“To is also an important field of Email composition. There is no particular difference between them because they both function in similar fashion. If you want to send the same email to four persons and you mention one email address into “To” field and other 3 in CC field than all the four will get the same email and they all can access the recipient list.
For example, If you want to give a reply to a customer regarding there complain and you also want to send a copy of this response to your boss than, you can put the email address of the client in the “To” field and in CC field you can mention the email address of your Boss. Now your boss will get a copy of the reply that you sent to the client.
